I just spent 30 minutes on a bus staring at a wall;
someone wrote in Japanese, English, French
“drift away.”
This is true.
(I editted out the last line after a few suggestions that it wasn't needed.)

Daily Deviation

P.C.Preaching by ~bristoltheorange is more than just a slice of life - it lays on your tongue for a while, asking if you might counter its flavor. ( Suggested by PinkyMcCoversong and Featured by StJoan )

I think it's Daily Deviation or something. Someone liked it enough to feature it. I'm glad you like it. Over the years I've seen some impressive examples of graffiti and my own little ways of rebelling just by changing already existing things. I don't really condone crappy tags though. Have you heard of an artist named Banksy? He's one of the best examples of graffiti as art.

heard of, haven't seen his work
i'm not really an avid follower, but i know a few things, and some of the best peices of art in public are graffiti murals. it's a lost art form and i'm blessed to know a few artists
i'm still not sure why it's bad that you were featured

I'm not a big fan of murals simply because they're approved by some sort of authority, which fundamentally opposes some of the ideals of graffiti. I don't know, I guess I can see both sides of the argument.
I didn't say it was bad I was featured. What gave you that idea?

no, the other comment, that he was quitting the site because you were featured
only one of the murals i know of was approved.
two were paid for.
one was about to be painted over, and a whole region of the city protested against the council to keep it there, in memorial for the artist' brother. it's beautiful and i'm glad it's there, but we still have to fight every year for it's place

Ah. Interesting. Where I live there's a bunch of shotty approved for murals and given the choice between those and blank walls I'd go for blank walls. They're that bad.

ouch man, i feel your pain, i love in a pretty dingy place myself, i only know of 7 decent peices, in more than 100,000,000 square acres. oh well, enjoy what you can i guess

what was the line you edited out?

the simplicity, and message, of this strikes something in me; an emotion I can't accurately place.

I honestly can't remember the line, but I do remember it pretty much reiterated the rest of the poem so it was pointless.

That's so incredibly intruiging. All that's written/scratched into anything I've seen were swear words and somebody-loves-someone-else. Never anything so inspiring.

‘ P.C.Preaching ’ means nothing to me. After reading some previous comments, I feel as if I'm missing something, because I don't understand the title.

In any case, I was able to recognize a flash of fantastic beauty in the words of this taciturn specimen. The final statement is congenial to the imagination. However, I would feel inclined to add another comma after ‘French’. The absence of an ‘and’ is no problem.

P.C. Preaching, the title is taken from the idea of being politically correct and the words on the bus wall seemed almost prayer-like to me. It's sort of a tongue-in-cheek title.

Um, I'm sorry if I am an idiot, but what does this poem mean? I love short poems, but this one puzzles me.

And I also wonder what the line you deleted was.

I guess it has to do with being in transit: on a bus, which obviously is moving and usually when people deface public property it's with some stupid tag. I saw this written on the bus and it struck me as being really quite appropriate, almost like a prayer, or on the other hand it was stating the obvious. It also seemed really strange that it was in different languages as though the person who wrote it was desperate to communicate to as many people as possible. As for the deleted line, I can't remember what it was except that it was pointless because it just reiterated the rest of the poem, basically.
Something like that.

Throw in an "and" before "french" and it will flow better :)

I had an "and" but I find the purpose of poetry is to cut out all the useless words and get to the point. Poetry is far more condenced than prose and in many cases a person is trying to get so many ideas to fit into one compact piece, words like "and" although they do help with rhythm in most cases, I found in this particular case it only intervened with the idea, rather than helped it. Thank you for the critique.
